The first week of January is a natural moment to reset the house and the family routine. It does not have to be a big project: four steps over a few days are enough.
1. Put the holidays away properly
Pack decorations in labeled boxes, wrap fragile items and note anything broken. Store wrapping supplies in the gift wrap station. Future you will thank you next December.
2. Make room for the new
New gifts need homes. For each new toy or gadget, consider letting one older one go, using the donation station. The 30-day declutter challenge is a gentle way to keep going through January.
3. Set up the year’s calendar
Add birthdays, school terms, holidays and regular commitments to the family calendar. Start a new folder for this year’s papers. See a family calendar everyone can use.
4. Choose one family goal
Instead of a long list of resolutions, choose one thing to do more of together: more walks, one new recipe a week, a monthly day out. Write it somewhere visible and talk about it at the weekly family meeting.
Reset the routines
School mornings and bedtimes often slip over the holidays. Ease back in a few days before school starts. The routine card maker can print fresh cards for the new term.
